Of course, the primary concern of any business is economic, being able to make as much profit as possible relative to investment. However, this may mean putting in long hours, doing manual labour in tandem with paid stuff. While this is great for many entrepreneurs, many are looking for a greater work-life balance. Furthermore, some businesses require a lot of travel, especially if one needs to acquire several properties in order to turn a profit. Travel costs (both money and time spent) dig into any bottom line, making it difficult to maintain healthy family and social ties.
Do A Self Evaluation
Before you start anything, it can be helpful to answer some basic questions.
- How many weekly-hours am I comfortable dedicating to the business?
- Am I comfortable working some weekends and/or holidays?
- How close do I want the business to be to my home?
- How do I feel about getting “dirty”?
- Can I work from home?
East Meets West
This is not just our motto for our education philosophy!
Inspiration Learning Center leverages Eastern diligence while also fostering creativity and balance. For example, our system allows you to be productive at home, especially once your assistant masters all of the processes required to keep things running. This does not mean that you will never have to come into the office, insteading limiting the things that you will need to personally supervise. For example, you will need to come in to do “in-person” tours of your learning center, showing prospective families the value in enrolling in our programs.
What Do You Mean Weekends?
Students are busy during regular school hours, making evenings and weekends “prime time” in our industry. This does not mean that you will have to supervise every class or necessarily be on site whatsoever. Our program teaches you how to vet tutors, finding the most capable and trustworthy applicants. As such, many of our tutors are given keys by the franchisee, allowing them to gain access “off-hours”. Furthermore, some classes are held virtually, either on Zoom or on Voov. This further reduces your role, except in situations where you have to transfer information between the tutor and the parent. The good news is that once everything gets settled, you can take a more passive role and focus more on attracting new students.
Kid Friendly Business?
You cannot think of a better family-friendly business than a learning center! Not only will your children gain access to high quality tutors, but they will also develop their own love for learning. Over time, you develop friendships with the families that you serve, often spending time together in social settings. This is a great way to get children to come out of their shell, by being around different people from different walks of lives. This says nothing about the language enrichment opportunities, since we offer classes in English, French, Mandarin and more! From writing to public speaking, your child will have access to the very best of Canadian education, giving them tools needed to succeed! How is that for hitting two birds with one stone?
You Control The Speed
Some people just want to get their “feet wet” as opposed to “jumping in”.
It can be overwhelming starting your own business, with so many variables and other uncertainty. Through 20 years of trial and error, we have developed an effective system that will bear fruit, both financial and otherwise. Some franchisees start with tutoring while going into the private school realm once they are more comfortable. Once everything is running smoothly, you may opt for a second learning center, perhaps situated close to the primary campus. That way you can go back and forth as required, perhaps even delegating your tutors to perform operational duties and so forth.
Are You In?
If you are looking for a way to build yourself–by building your community–send us an email and we will invite you to our location for a presentation. Alternatively, if you are located away from our Markham Headquarters then we can meet virtually. This is an exciting time for us here at Inspiration and we are looking forward to getting to know you!
